According to history, this bakpia cake actually comes from China, you know. The word bakpia itself is taken from the combination of the words 'bak' which means pork and 'pia' which means cake made of flour. That's because at first bakpia is a cake containing pork and then modified.
In general, bakpia is made by baking, but this time we will make bakpia by steaming. Of course, the steaming process makes it easier to try at home.

Steamed Bakpia Recipe
Who doesn't know bakpia? This dish from Yogyakarta is widely known by the Indonesian people because of its distinctive taste. Bakpia consists of a skin with a filling which is usually made from green beans, black beans, or chocolate. In general, bakpia is served as a snack or a meal on certain occasions. In this recipe we will make bakpia in a very easy steamed way!
Materials
Main ingredients needed:
- 150 grams of medium protein flour
- 150 grams of sugar
- 80 ml liquid milk
- 4 eggs _
- 1/2 teaspoon SP (cake developer)
- 150 grams melted margarine
- 5 drops of food coloring
Filling materials needed:
- chocolate jam to taste

Prepare a container, mix sugar, eggs, and SP then beat using a mixer on medium speed until white traces appear.

Then add the flour and liquid milk to the sugar mixture, beat again using a mixer on low speed until all ingredients are evenly mixed.

Pour the melted butter into the mixture and stir using a spatula in a reverse direction.

Add some food coloring and stir again until the dough looks pretty.

Prepare a bakpia mold and grease it with butter. Pour just one tablespoon of bakpia dough and then steam for 3 minutes.

After three minutes, remove the dough from the steamer then add the filling and cover again with the dough.

Put back the bakpia dough that has been added with the filling and covered into the steamer and steamed for about 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, remove the dough from the steamer and let it cool then remove it from the mold. Serve the bakpia.
In addition to using chocolate jam, you can also use other raw materials as stuffing for your steamed bakpia. The most popular stuffing ingredients include green beans, red beans, durian, or cheese. You can adjust the ingredients used according to your taste.
The steamed bakpia above is of course very easy to make because it does not require a baking process which is sometimes quite inconvenient. You also don't need to use an oven, one medium-sized steamer is enough as the main equipment in making steamed bakpia.
