Indonesian cuisine is a popular blend of Indian and Chinese influences. The Dutch arrived in Java in the early 16th century and introduced rice, chicken curry, noodles from Siam (now Thailand), soy sauce, dried shrimpanto pepper to Indonesian food. Frye notes that Indonesian food owes much to India's influence on the south-southwest trade which took place over hundreds of years.
